White House giving Maine 10 days to comply with transgender ruling

The Trump administration demands Maine rescind its policy allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports, claiming it violates federal anti-discrimination law under Title IX. Maine officials, including Gov. Janet Mills, D, have stood by the policy based on the Maine Human Rights Act, rejecting compliance with the proposed agreement.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned of potential lawsuits against Maine if it continues to deny girls equal athletic opportunities, citing Title IX violations. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, expressed support for Maine’s leaders, stating that courts will ultimately determine the authority of the Trump administration over Title IX.
