Republicans on the House Oversight Committee released bank documents they said show Hunter Biden and his business partners received millions of dollars from oligarchs in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine when Joe Biden was vice president. The committee memo stated they identified more than 20 million dollars in payments from foreign sources to Biden-owned businesses.

The payments include $3.5 million from Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina to a shell company called Rosemont Seneca Thornton, which was owned by Hunter Biden and his business partner Devon Archer. From there, $750,000 was transferred to Archer and 2.7 million was sent to the Rosemont Seneca Bohai bank account, used by both Archer and Biden.

In 2014, Kazakhstani oligarch Kenes Rakishev transferred $142,000 to Rosemont Seneca Bohai. The next day that money was used as payment for a sports car for Hunter Biden.

According to the Straight Arrow News Media Miss™ tool, this story is a Media Miss for the left. The Media Landscape indicates that while right-leaning outlets and some center-oriented outlets are covering this story, CNN is the only left-leaning outlet reporting on the topic.

Here’s a look at some of the reporting:

The Washington Examiner reported that soon after Baturina and Rakishev made the money transfers, then-Vice President Biden had dinner with both of them along with Hunter and Devon Archer at Cafe Milano in Washington, D.C.

Archer confirmed the dinner took place in testimony to the committee.

The Federalist pointed out that despite President Biden’s repeated denials that he ever participated in his son’s business dealings or spoke with his partners, records indicate Biden interacted with family business partners more than 200 times.

CNN reported that Republicans on the committee said they can accuse Joe Biden of corruption without direct evidence that he financially benefited from his son’s business.

CNN highlighted a quote in the memo that stated, “President Biden’s defenders purport a weak defense by asserting the Committee must show payments directly to the President to show corruption.”

This is the third time the committee has released bank records. The committee said its investigation into the Biden family is ongoing.
