The government should fund more bike paths
Americans love their bikes. In 2021, more than 51 million people in the U.S. rode bikes, up from 43 million just a decade earlier. During the pandemic, demand for bicycles soared as people were motivated to get outside. But the COVID-19 bike boom proved temporary. In many U.S. cities, pre-pandemic transportation habits have returned, in…

Biden’s child care subsidies dictate how to raise children
One of the key factors preventing women from returning to the workforce after the COVID-19 pandemic is the lack of child care options. In one study, 45% of mothers cited the child care shortage as the main reason they had to leave their jobs in the first place. President Biden has introduced some controversial steps…

Blame lockdowns, not COVID-19, for America’s crime wave
Homicide rates spiked 30% during COVID-19. Auto thefts increased significantly during the summer of 2020. There was a 15% increase in firearm-related violence. Some, however, question whether COVID was the cause. Straight Arrow News contributor Tim Carney says we should blame lockdowns, not COVID, for America’s crime wave. COVID didn’t cause a spike in violent…

Earth overpopulation is a myth we should all ignore
Fears of human overpopulation have been around for decades. Hollywood has even crafted dystopian thrillers like Soylent Green, Blade Runner and even Avengers: Infinity War around the dangers of overpopulation. But if this true, how does one explain China’s population decline in 2022? The concern is that with Earth’s population now at eight billion people,…

Colorado web design lawsuit isn’t really about gay rights
Once again, Colorado is front and center before the Supreme Court in a battle over the state’s laws protecting same-sex couples from discrimination. A web designer is challenging the state’s anti-discrimination laws, saying she should not be forced to create sites that go against her faith. Straight Arrow News contributor Tim Carney says the Colorado…

Qatar will regret hosting the 2022 World Cup
Selecting Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup was controversial from the start. Critics were bothered by allegations of bribery, human rights concerns and lack of infrastructure. Qatar is the first Middle East country to host the world’s largest sporting event and spent lavishly on new infrastructure projects, transforming the country. Its minister of finance…

Georgia’s election laws falsely accused of voter suppression
As former President Obama campaigns in Georgia, all eyes are on voter turnout. Georgia passed a law in 2021 that overhauled elections in the state by mandating voter identification for absentee ballots and limiting the use of ballot drop boxes. It also adds more staff and equipment in locations that have long lines and it…

The electric vehicle tax credit will cost us
A notable part of the Biden administration’s efforts to combat climate change is its goal to have electric vehicles make up half of all new car sales by the year 2030. To that end, it’s offering a tax credit to buyers of electric vehicles (EVs), but not without controversy. By increasing incentives, demand is stronger,…

‘Pro-choice’ movement now advocates for aborting babies
This past May, Politico congressional reporter Sarah Ferris reported on a memo circulated by the House Pro-Choice Caucus, issuing guidance on language to use when talking about abortion. One section of the guidance wants Democrats to refer to abortion as a “decision” instead of a “choice,” in an effort to support the abortion rights movement.…

COVID lockdowns may have done more harm than good
The mantra during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic was “stay home, save lives.” But with two years of evidence and observation, it may be time to assess whether the lockdowns did more to hurt people than help them. There is growing evidence that children were especially harmed from being deprived of daily contact…

Rick Scott’s tax plan is dumb, immoral, and bad for Republicans
Florida Sen. Rick Scott’s (R) 11-point tax plan has made him an easy target for a White House looking to turn the nation’s attention away from record-high inflation. Experts have said Scott’s proposal would raise taxes for the lowest-earning Americans, which led President Biden to call Scott’s idea “extreme.” Scott’s plan has also put him…
